World Press Photo 2005

Premielisten i World Press Photo ble nylig offentliggjort. World Press Photo of the year gikk i år til kanadiske Finbarr O'Reilly, for dette fotografiet tatt på en matstasjon i Niger. Bildet viser fingrene til et lite barn mot munnen til barnets mor.

Den norske naturfotografen Pål Hermansen tildelt en andreplass i kategorien natur med sitt fotografi av en isbjørn på Svalbard.

James Colton, formann i World Press Photo juryen, sier dette om vinnerbildet:
"This picture has haunted me ever since I first saw it two weeks ago. It has stayed in my head, even after seeing all the thousands of others during the competition. This image has everything - beauty, horror and despair. It is simple, elegant and moving."
